Vincent Chin, A Young Chinese American Man Who Was Brutally Murdered In 1982. From A Whisper To A Rallying Cry: The Killing Of Vincent Chin And The Trial That Galvanized The Asian American Movement

On June 19, 1982, Vincent Chin, a 27-year-old Chinese American man, was brutally murdered in Detroit, Michigan. Chin was beaten to death with a baseball bat by two white men, Ronald Ebens and Michael Nitz, after an argument at a Highland Park bar. The murder of Vincent Chin was a watershed moment in the history of Asian Americans in the United States. It was one of the first cases to bring national attention to the issue of anti-Asian violence, and it helped to galvanize the Asian American movement.

Peggy Pascoe's book, The Killing of Vincent Chin and the Trial that Galvanized the Asian American Movement, is a gripping account of the crime and its aftermath. Pascoe draws on extensive research, including interviews with Chin's family and friends, as well as with the police officers, prosecutors, and defense attorneys involved in the case. She provides a detailed account of the trial, which was a national media sensation, and she explores the complex racial and social issues that surrounded the case.

Pascoe's book is a powerful and moving tribute to Vincent Chin and his family. It is also an important contribution to the history of Asian Americans in the United States. The Killing of Vincent Chin is a must-read for anyone interested in this important chapter in American history.
