Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1908. His parents were both sharecroppers, and he grew up in poverty. Despite the challenges he faced, Marshall was a brilliant student. He graduated from high school at the top of his class and went on to attend Howard University Law School. After graduating from law school, Marshall began his career as a civil rights lawyer. He fought for the rights of African Americans in a number of landmark cases, including Brown v. Board of Education and Loving v. Virginia.

In 1967, President Lyndon Johnson appointed Marshall to the Supreme Court. As a Justice, Marshall continued to fight for civil rights and equality. He wrote important opinions in cases involving affirmative action, voting rights, and criminal justice. Marshall served on the Supreme Court for 24 years. He retired in 1991, and he died in 1993.

Thurgood Marshall was a giant of the civil rights movement. His work helped to make America a more just and equitable society for all. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
